Went on another ride with CCR and what a ride it was. As you can see below Ron got himself a new ride–and a doozy it was–
We were all impressed, however, as you can see we chose to keep our distance not certain that his new greenie meanie would play nice.
For 283 miles (370 for me) we rode this:
and it was every bit as curvy as it looks. If there was an obscure road Ron found it on some secret map he has that refuses to follow a straight line. Oh, and I should add I have been made the official chronicler for the CCR Newsletter. It is always an honor to be offered a job no one else wants!
The day was quite lovely. Hot at times (which is to be expected) but a fantastic breeze once we left Lake Arrowhead. I was trying out my new Sena 10C for pictures so was fussing a lot with all the button combinations but I eventually figured it out. I have to say the quality is not GoPro but the ease and convenience and battery life alone is worth it 100%. After meeting up at Starbucks, where Carla informed us she just purchased a 1969 Honda CB 750 (I hope she brings that to one of the CCR rides and someone can understand how fast these people ride!!) we rode off with Carl, Ron, Kim and picked up Mel and Andy in Valencia.
As I said the day was pretty spectacular. Lots of curves and sweepers . Look at that sky–
Fairly empty roads until we got trapped behind literally the slowest driver on the planet. Now, we all knew that Ron was not going to suffer this well, and of course Carl (directly behind him) began gesticulating and soon Ron had simply HAD Enough (cue Mission Impossible music)
Yes, we passed–and I am told honked madly at the slow poke youngster at the wheel. But once around the road was all ours. This is my favorite pic of the day–
As we approached Lake Arrowhead I thought, “Oh good, just a few more miles.” HA. Not according to Ron’s map of increasing difficulties. It looks innocent enough but–well—you had to be there.
Finally at Lake Arrowhead parking proved messy but once we figured it all out we ate a lovely lunch and then took our first group picture.
Once we got back on our bikes I had pretty much decided I wanted to cruise. I should know better. Numerous curves awaited us as we approached the 2 on our way to Newcombs.
This part of the ride was exactly the ride I took with Rick at the end of June. So I was familiar. It took a lot of concentration. Once we stopped at Newcombs I received some friendly riding advice from Kim (I felt pretty bad that I was holding him up as HE understands how to ride sweep–hint hint Jeff) so I stepped it up for the ride on Tujunga which he appreciated immensely. We all took our leave in Sunland. I made it home after spending 11 hours with the CCR folks and looking forward to the next one (luckily they are only monthly I can recover).
