First things first:
The old front and rear rims, rusted and loose spokes, 37+ year old hubs, equally old wheel bearings –
Once we got the call that the wheels were ready Dash and I raced to Newhall, CA to begin his pampering for our upcoming adventure. The following pictures show his transformation! Stainless steel spokes, powder coated rims, polished hubs, new wheel bearings and all sorts of shiny things…
Riding home was a dream. We both felt very sassy. Then, not more than 15 miles from home the rear tire went flat. I have never navigated with a quickly deflating tire at 75 miles per hour on a freeway, and I never want to do it again.
Here is the path my bike took, or at least how it felt. Imagine this is a 6 lane freeway…
What the hell!
At one point I remember thinking, “I’m going to go down” and then I said “the hell you are!” Wonder what the cars behind me were thinking?
